Laser Hair Removal London - Body Silk Aesthetic Clinic

Laser Hair Removal with the LightSheer system

Laser hair removal is a widely recognised process for removing unwanted hair from the body. It will remove hair permanently, provided you treat the hair in 4 or 5 treatments, to catch it throughout all of it's growth cycles. It's fairly painless, as pulses of light of a pre-determined wavelength pass down the hair follicle and kill it at the root, preventing re-growth, without any sort of damage to the rest of the body. It's a proven, extremely popular treatment, that can remove unwanted hair from anywhere on the body.

What exactly does the laser hair removal process involve?

During the quick, and almost pain free session at our Clinic, a fully qualified Cosmetic Nurse will apply the laser to the areas discussed in the consultation that you would like to treat. The laser works specifically to attack hairs by travelling through the pigment in the hair, down to the root, where the energy is absorbed by the bulb, and it is killed.

A single laser hair removal treatment will generally take up to 45 minutes, depending on the part of your body being treated. A lip or small area of the body may take as little as 10 minutes. Due to the way the body works, you will typically need more than one session per course of treatment as the hair grows in cycles, and we cannot get it all in one treatment. You will find that following each session, you will be able to go about your daily business as per usual, without any negative side effects.

When it comes to permanent laser hair removal, one should consider two main points before committing to a course of treatments:

1) The type of laser machine used by your aesthetic clinic. Not all lasers work effectively to help you get rid of unwanted hair. Our clinic has done a lot of homework before we chose a laser to invest in to guarantee the best possible results to our patients. The LightSheer laser is specifically designed for hair removal. We have chosen this laser because of the extensive clinical research, which demonstrates its effectiveness for permanent hair reduction. Other Laser Hair Removal systems that we have investigated cannot make this claim. We know it works and provides the kind of long term results that our patients have come to expect from advanced laser clinics.

laser hair removal london2) Number of treatments to achieve results. Most clinics that offer laser hair removal will require you to come back for a treatment 10-12 times, while LightSheer can do the job during 4-6 treatments (!) The price for a treatment in those clinics, however, will either be the same or higher compared with the clinics offering treatments with the LightSheer system.

FAQ's

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?
The follicles with hairs in a growing stage at the time of your permanent laser hair removal treatment, will be permanently destroyed. As the hairs grows in cycle, it will be require to wait a few weeks till the "sleeping" follicles at the time of your previous treatment will start producing hairs and will come into its growing phase. This is why a few laser hair removal sessions will be required....
How does the LightSheer system remove hair?
The laser will "see" a dark pigment - melanin - in the shaft of the hair and will target that particular follicle. Lumenis LightSheer Laser is designed to have a certain wave legnth, enough to reach the follicle to destroy it. Lasers differ by length of the wave. Theoretically, each type of laser machine can perform laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation, vein removal BUT with different level of effectiveness. That is why, a good clinic, offering all these laser treatments, should have different laser machines - each of them designed with a certain wave length for a specific treatment. For that reason, Body Silk Clinic offers only permanent laser hair removal with Lumenis LightSheer as we know that this is the most effective machine, designed specifically for permanent hair reduction. Unlike IPL - Intense Pulse Light, which is mistakenly called sometimes a "laser" - the actual laser has a focused ray of the same width throughout the entire wave legnth, carrying, therefore, much more heat power to the shaft of the follicle. And unlike electrolysis, targeting one hair follicle at a time, Lumenis LightSheer laser is able to destroy hundreds of follicles with one shot.  ...
Is laser hair removal safe?
Lumenis LightSheer Diode system was developed from years of research by the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine, one of the leading medical laser research institutions in the world. The laser incorporates a few protective components, such as self-cooling head, to make sure that the treatment is completely safe. The pulse is very short and is enough to destroy the follicles. One should also know that laser is NOT radiation, it is heat, so it does not have health risks radiationwise....
Does laser hair removal hurt?
During your laser hair removal session you will experience a stinging or tingling sensation. Many of our patients say that laser hair removal is a lot less uncomfortable than other hair epilation methods, such as waxing, for instance. From experience, skinny people will be more sensitive. We offer topical anaesthetic cream if you feel that it would make you more comfortable. After your laser hair removal treatment, you will experience a sunburn sensation in the treated area for a few hours. We also offer a comforting cream that you can apply after the treatment at home....

What will I look like / How red will I be after the treatment?

I have dark skin / I tan...can I be treated with laser hair removal?
To establish whether you are a good candidate for a laser hair removal treatment, we will need to see you for a consultation followed by a patch test. If you have dark skin type, you will be asked to wait 48 hours after the patch test to see if you are suitable for the laser treatment. It is advised not to be in the direct sun exposure 6 weeks before and 6 week after the intended treatment. You will also be given after-care patient instructions after the treatment....
What about blonde/red/grey hair?
An ideal laser hair removal patient is the one with dark hairs and fair skin. Dark hairs contain more malanine in the shaft and can be "seen" by the laser better to be destroyed. Having said that, many of our fair-haired patients get good results after the treatment. This is due to the fact that although the hair itself may be fair in colour, it still can have enough melanine for the laser to "see" it and to target the follicle to destroy it. So, till one tries, it is hard to tell how effective permanent laser hair removal will be for fair-haired patients. Gray, red and white hairs will not respond to treatments. However, some of the red or blond hairs may respond well if they contain some malanine. We would need to see you for a consultation to establish whether it is the case. The consultation fee of £25 will be deducted from the cost of the treatment. If it turns out that you are not a suitable candidate for a laser hair removal treatment, the consultation will be free....
Do I need to grow the hair out before my consultation / treatment?
If you waxed and then decided to have your laser hair removal treatment, you will be asked to wait till your hair grows back, so that the laser could target the melanine in the shaft of the hairs to destroys the follicles. You must clean-shave the area on the day of your treatment as surface hair will interferes with the process....
Do I have to stop bleaching / tweezing / using depilatories, etc?
Yes. After your first treatment, you will have no hair growing in the treated area for a few weeks and will find that it will not be necessary to bleach, tweeze, etc....
How far apart are the treatments spaced?
Laser hair removal sessions are spaced from 4 to 16 weeks, depending on the area of the body treated. After each session, the gaps will be longer with no or very few hairs growing....
How long before I see results with your laser hair removal system??
You will see the effect immediately. It takes anything between 5 to 10 days for the dead hairs in the treated area to fall out. This period is called shedding. After that, you will experience several weeks of no growth in the treated area....
Can I be treated whilst taking medications?
If you are on Accutane or Retin-A or steroids, you will not be treated as you may pigment. However, certain patients on steroids can be treated provided that they have a written consent from their doctor who prescribed them the medication that they are suitable for a laser hair removal treatment....
I am pregnant / planning on becoming pregnant. Can I still be treated?
It is our policy not to treat pregnant women....
